Online workshop: Inequality

Online workshop: Inequality

Workshop leader: Brigitte Hansmann
First of all, we are all living beings, air-breathing creatures. As mammals, we are social beings. As humans, we are beings capable of becoming aware of our way of occupying space in the world, of moving in life and of relating to each other. Although we have everything we need to live well, we do not know how to handle ourselves. Some of us colonize the land of others because we feel superior, entitled to exploit their resources and people. Others find their land and their lives colonized by people who believe they have the right to use their power to take what they fancy. It may be true that colonizing the land of others, may give the colonizer a sense of competence and material security, and the colonized a feeling of powerlessness. But what is certain, for sure, is that living in conflict with the Earth's gravitational field creates the feeling of having to face adversaries and obstacles everywhere. On the other hand, with the support of the gravitational field, the planet's largest force field, and with a good alignment in relation to the archetypal force fields of life, we find ways to eliminate obstacles, without exploiting anyone or letting ourselves be colonized, and to, at least, turn some of the adversaries into allies.

In this online workshop, we start by becoming aware of the possibilities within our reach to make small, sustainable changes in our habitual way of occupying space, right here, sitting in front of the computer. We explore the movements of breathing as a tool for awareness and change. We observe how these small changes in the relationship between the body and the ground and in the motions of breathing manifest themselves in the relationship with ourselves and others.

We explore the initial conditions of our life and the lives of our parents, grandparents, great-grandparents... to find out if there are traces of unfinished business in our body that need to be processed to leave us free to move ahead. Often, our ancestors did not have the possibility of processing their traumatic experiences in war, under repressive, paternalistic, colonial regimes, or of racism and racial persecution, be it as colonizer or being colonized. Therefore, they could not restore an inner balance that would have allowed for post-traumatic learning. Thus, both the records of the traumatic experiences themselves, of post-traumatic stress, and of the defense mechanisms against the body's attempts to restore internal balance are transmitted from generation to generation. They affect the ways parents and grandparents treat their children and grandchildren. Often, it gets in the way of freely expressing the love that holds families together. When love does not flow or manifests itself with behaviors that seem anything but loving, it brings forth resentment and frustration and belief systems about the vision of the world, of ourselves and of what we think we can achieve in life, based on the infantile interpretation of experiences under the initial conditions marked by the unmetabolized traumatic registers, one’s own and those that have been inherited.

All this is recorded in the implicit memory of the body, even what lies dormant in the body of parents and grandparents and we absorb by resonance through contact with them. Implicit memory does not say, "I am a memory of such and such a situation." It always presents itself as if it were real now. We perceive what is happening now through the filter of those registers and we tend to interpret it based on that.
An indispensable requirement to become the owner of the piece of the world that we occupy with our body is to be willing to learn to steer one's own life. This means, in the first place, learning to bring sensory perception out of the background into the foreground of our experience in order to be able to discern what corresponds to the reality of the present moment and what is a child's interpretation of experience in terms of one's own initial and inherited conditions.

Another requirement, sine qua non, for mastering one's own life is the recognition of the interdependence of all forms of life. We will develop a customized practice system that allows our findings to be applied in each person's everyday life, according to their personal situation. Again, the main tool is sensory perception. That is, learning to feel. Only when we know how to feel sensations, can we learn to regulate the flow of emotions that arise from these sensations, to re-examine the emotional evaluation and mental conclusions we reach from feeling them, and to make decisions based on a clear perception of reality, such as it is: a perfect dynamic network of interrelated and interwoven parts and rhythmic processes, among them us and all other living beings. We are points of correlation in this uninterrupted and interconnected network of events, movements, relationships and energies.
