Getting through the ecological crisis

Getting through the ecological crisis

Workshop leader: Brigitte Hansmann
By opening our attention to the interior of the body, we explore the relationship with the environment, both in the material and social worlds. By perceiving this relationship we can find the way of being and moving that, little by little, allows us to let go of the tension that keeps us trapped in the illusion of being separated from nature, isolated in our piece of modern life with its frenetic pace, the continuous interaction with machines and substances that are harmful to health, both in our private life and in the world of work.

When we realize, not as a simple idea but as a felt sense that there is no separation, not even the slightest fissure, between who we are as a living being and the world of which we are a part, we find the support, the initiative, the courage and opportunities to stop using the workforce in projects that reinforce an unfair and unsustainable economic model. We find ways to employ our workforce to take care of nature and to protect it in some way.
The starting point for change must be the place where one is. In other words, it is important to become aware of the shape of the body in relation to its environment. Workshop participants explore their patterns through the daily movements of breathing, lying down, sitting, standing, walking and communicating, individually, in guided sequences and in explorations in pairs, small groups and in the whole group. The theoretical part of the workshop provides the necessary information to understand how these patterns are generated and how they manifest themselves in the relationship between the body and the Earth's gravitational field.

Depending on how we occupy space with the body and in what relationship we hold ourselves with the coordinates of the Earth's gravitational field, it supplies us with an energy that gives us a feeling of elevation and ease in movement, a feeling of living and moving in unison with a greater force. In this way we can discover abilities that we did not know we had and develop them. We are literally rooted in the Earth and we can feel that we are part of the interwoven network of the whole of life. Inside the body we discover the compass that shows us the way to follow. A bad alignment entails the feeling of continuously running into insurmountable obstacles and having to face opponents stronger than ourselves all the time. It causes discomfort and, in the long run, dysfunction and disease.

The tension that is generated when we live in conflict with gravity traps the flow of sensations in repetitive patterns that prevent us from clearly perceiving what is really happening. Then, the tissues that make up the body are imbued with unresolved emotional contents from the past that remain stored just below the threshold of consciousness. From there they inform the vision we have of ourselves, of life and of the world and keep us anchored in the kind of relationship with the environment we would like to change. But if we recognize these records from the past for what they are, we can orient ourselves towards what is real now and find what kind of stance to adopt in relationship to them in order to be able to engage with whatever works well and let go of what causes discomfort.

The format of the workshop provides experiences and knowledge that provide additional value for professionals in physical and mental health, education, art, the business world, sports and many others, but does not require any previous training. An essential requirement is the willingness to develop a certain degree of sensitivity that allows us to perceive sensations in the body, whether pleasant or painful, and to learn to manage them in order to be able to attend, in an effective way, to the parts of the person caught in the conflict with the greater force fields of the world. The workshop will provide the tools to develop this sensitivity, even if the person has invested a lot of energy in desensitizing themselves and does not know how to perceive their body.
